RTM Manufacturing

From projects and invoices created by hand to a tracker that raises them in one click.

RTM Manufacturing is a precision turbo parts fabricator in Houston, Texas. It has two business units, RTM Works and Chip Hopper, each with its own QuickBooks company.

What was in the way

Every project and invoice was created by hand in the browser, and a Zapier subscription ran on top.

RTM runs two businesses, RTM Works and Chip Hopper, each with its own QuickBooks company. Each new project had to be set up in the right company by hand, and every Chip Hopper job needed a second, inter-company invoice with the agreed discount applied.

What we built

  1. Nov 2025

Work began on a project tracker for both business units.

We built it as a web app in React, with Google sign-in for RTM's team, hosted on AWS S3 and CloudFront in RTM's own AWS account, which we helped them set up. While it was being built, RTM followed progress the way every client does: a preview link to click through, regular check-ins and written updates.

  2. Dec 2025

    The project tracker went live.

Creating a project now creates it in the right QuickBooks company for that business unit, and one click raises the invoice. For Chip Hopper jobs it raises the inter-company invoice too, with the agreed discount already applied. The team gets notifications in Slack, and the automations moved from Zapier to Make.com, in RTM's own account, so the Zapier subscription was cancelled. Nothing was switched over until the tracker had been running and tested.

  3. 2026

    Fixes and improvements through 2026.

We've kept improving the tracker on RTM's monthly retainer. One example: each invoice now links to the project's sub-customer in QuickBooks instead of the parent customer.

Where it stands today

The tracker runs in RTM's own AWS account and the automations in RTM's own Make.com account, so RTM owns all of it and could move it to another provider. We maintain both on a monthly support retainer. RTM Works also introduced us to the founder of SeptiConnect, and we built it.
